Why cast iron over ceramic?
Why is our cast iron kamado superior to ceramic? Read on.
Cooking with cast iron offers advantages over alternative ceramic kamados, such as increased durability and less moving parts. Additionally, cast iron’s radiant and thermal properties provide even heating and precise temperature control.
We offer superior construction, Increased Durability, All-Weather High-Temperature Powder Coat Finish, Integrated Hinge, Single-Piece Cast Iron Firebox, Cast Iron Searing Plate, Two Tiered Cast Iron Grates, Thermometer ±1% Accuracy, Dual-Disc Cast Iron Top Vent, Stainless steel intake. Heavy Duty Cart, Cast Iron Wheels, Solid Wood Handle and more!
You may have noticed that ceramic kamados are “sold out” these days. Most import their ceramic from China and or Mexico, and that has proven difficult as foreign supply chains have been disrupted recently.
So why wait for “out of stock” ceramic kamados because fragile, foreign made ceramic parts are hard to come by these days? Shop our quality, genuine, American made Goldens’ Cast Iron kamados. They’re always in stock, because they’re built in America with materials made in America. Cookers come fully assembled and delivered right to your backyard, ready to grill! Plus they last for generations. Buy Goldens’ Cast Iron. Pouring iron since 1882.

I have the 20″ Kamado grill with table and have had for over a year now. I love the grill (built like a tank ) Very heavy but still easy to move with the nice big cast iron wheels. I had an issue with the temp gauge and they took care of it very quickly. Great customer service and great people. I have a lot of experience with different ceramic grills. This one cooks very similar but is built to last more then a life time. Rust is not an issue . When i got it i seasoned by wiping inside of grill with oil and cooking surfaces ran it at 300 degrees for several hours. I did this twice and have not have any rust problems what so ever . Side note get the divider plate it really expands ways to cook. It does seem to use a more charcoal then my large green egg ( i would say may be 20%) but the grill is also larger than a large green egg and will cook two large turkeys easily.

Best Grill ever!!!! I love my Goldens’ grill!

I was looking for a kamado style grill/smoker. The ceramics are easy to find. I was concerned about cracking of the ceramic and of the fit/durability of the bolt together parts. I try to find Made is USA when I can, and that is not so easy to do. I found this cooker. Seems that Goldens’ only started making these in the past couple of years. I didn’t know anyone that had one. Friends with ceramics never heard of it. Customer Service promptly answered the few questions I had. There are no bolt on or bolt together parts on this cooker. It is solid cast iron (like a good skillet) and won’t crack. It is Made in the USA. It is extremely heavy and mounted on a steel cart that has cast iron wheels. The cart is easy to maneuver. The spring to assist in opening the cover is big and solid. Helps to make the lid move as if in zero gravity. I have been using it about 4 months. No complaints at all. Has done a super job on rib roasts, salmon, brisket and turkey. This sits along side my trusty propane grill but there are things the propane grill cannot do. My delivery had some snafus but not the fault of Goldens. Customer Service helped as much as they could. In the end, it was worth the wait.

Finally purchased! Just got mine! Only been looking for over a year! Did my initial clean and burn in. Cooking some bacon the first morning. After a week, bacon, smash burgers, pulled pork, and chicken and steak fajitas. Next up is a whole chicken! This cooker rocks!! What a beast!! Thanks Goldens!!!!

I was going to go with a Kamado Joe also until I saw Goldens. Can’t beat it. You get what you pay for. And with this kamado, you are getting more than most kamados give you for an even higher price point. This thing is the best cooker ever, and for reliability it can’t be matched. I cook on it 3 times a week. Also, I was at Costco the other day, the Traeger sales rep there was really trying to sell me on getting one. I said no thanks man, my Goldens Cast Iron Kamado can’t be beat. He said I like cooking the hard way, I said I like cooking the real way.

I’ve had my Goldens’ Cast Iron cooker for almost 4 years now and it is Great! It is capable of cooking at nearly any temperature at which food is cooked while also being able to consistently hold a constant temperature. It’s efficient with your charcoal for those long cooks. Because it is heavy and well sealed it is much less likely to dry out your food. The durability can’t be beat. Unless you use your cooker for heavy target practice you will still have a strong and capable device providing delicious food for generations to come. You can certainly spend more to cook outdoors but you will not get more in terms of capability, durability, and flavor than the Goldens Cast Iron Cooker. I’m not being compensated to say these things, I just really like this All-American, Made in Georgia grill that has helped me provide delicious food for family and friends. I have even been able to successfully cook items that I would never try with other grills. Don’t merely take my word for it. When you are ready for some goodness find your local dealer and prepare to elevate your grilling to levels that you never thought possible. Join me and countless others in this new Iron Age made possible by the good folks of Goldens’ Cast Iron!

I’m having a great time using my Goldens cast iron kamado. I went with the handle cart because of space on my deck. Put a Goldens rubber mat underneath. I’m amazed how the cooker can hold a low cooking temperature with barely any vent opening.
I would say that using the cooker is a commitment and takes time. The temperature / air control does take adjusting as the food cooks and comes to temperature. But I look at it as a labor of love. A reason to slow down and enjoy the goodness of cooking a meal you, your family, and friends will enjoy.

People told me I was crazy for ordering a cast iron grill. I knew I made the right choice when I tried to roll it off the pallet myself and dropped it on my garage floor. Ceramic Kamado woulda cracked for sure, maybe worse! I have had my guy for about 7 months now and I use it at least twice per week, every week, sometimes more. It lights easy, heats up quick and holds temp for literal days. Do yourself a favor and go ahead and order the divider plate so you can have an easy 2-zone setup. I used stacks of bricks for a while but the plate is way better. I wish they would include the divider plate instead of the heat shield/searing plate.

awesome grill!

We recently received our 20.5” with the handle cart and I’m impressed. I also bought a bag of the Goldens lump charcoal and it’s great, but I haven’t used lump charcoal before so I don’t have anything else to compare it to. I will say their customer service goes above and beyond! I asked about a cover for my grill and received an extremely detailed and helpful response, including photos and links to help guide me to exactly what I needed. Last night we had our first dinner cooked on our new grill (ribeye steak) and I can honestly say it was the best steak I’ve ever had in my life. I expected more of a learning curve with this grill, and I’m sure we’ll get even better and more precise with more experience, but so far it’s very easy to use and cooks so much better than any other grill we’ve used. Thank you Goldens for making such an incredible product. We’re customers for life now!

If you get this grill purchase it on the cart because if your of mind to place it on a homemade table or on a stone shelf you have to realize this is one heavy unit. The cart moves with some effort but can be handled easily enough if your moving it over level ground, get some help around hills. Aside from this it’s an awesome cooker, holds temp well, cleans up easily, has a split for the fire basket and is great for doing roasts and finishing with a sear, just a great quality cooker. I’ve had Grill dome, and a Primo ceramic cooker, eventually parts fail and have to be repaired or reordered, I don’t see this unit failing, it’s built like a tank.
Goldens’ Cast Iron –
Wayne, it is definitely been referred to many times as a tank! And when you compare it to the fragility of a Big Green Egg or Kamado Joe, there is no comparison. So while your friends struggle with maintaining their cheaply made ceramic cookers (ceramic imported by the way), you’ll cruise right along for many years of grilling goodness! Welcome to the Iron Age!
